SD copies no longer automatically download with HD shows

i've noticed season pass of mad men new episodes no longer download both hd , sd copy of show.

don't remember apple making announcement this, found article updated 30 march 2012:

says download sd version compatible ios device must go purchased section of itunes store, find episode, uncheck download in hd when available, , cloud download button appear next show. ios device directly (although ipod touch freezes every time in purchased section of itunes app).

guess it's in terms of taking less space on computer, lack of announcement kind of annoying. contacted apple's itunes support online , got word salad response , had contact tier 2 department on phone. neither of them aware of change, , both of them suggested instead buy sd season of mad men in addition hd version! found article, described how download sd version (for free of course), while on hold them.
