iPad 1 sluggish on ios5?

i heard ipad 1 used faster without ios5. have not sen because when got ipad 1, got late , shipped ios5. there update making less sluggish?

 

it sluggish on ios 5.

on ios 5.1 however, runs quite well. no more crashes in safari etc anymore, , force closed.
