booting to grey screen after running migration assistant

hello, wish first post wasn't in section i've lurked quite bit here goes.

friend of mine purchased 27 inch late 2011 imac lion, , asked if transfer data late 2003 imac g4 (it has been updated leopard). started new imac, set profile , passed on data migration @ initial setup. grabbed fire wire cable , after doing update on old imac(to make compatible lion), ran migration assistant on both. data transferred no problems.

new imac did 2 software updates, , restarted hoping see old profiles available. new imac booted grey screen apple logo. it, , nothing else.

safe boot either profile, normal startup, there nothing.... grey screen , apple logo

called apple tech support , on phone hour. girl nice , ran me through battery of tests no avail. hard drive check fine, permissions out of wack, repaired. still didn't work.

reinstalling os now, wondering if has ever had of these issues or offer advice?

reload. g4 ppc ppc programs! new mac intel , doesn't old ppc programs.
