disapearing icons in Leopard osx

hi,

have , imac running latest version of leopard osx , icons on menu bar (clock, volume, wifi icon, time machine, etc) have disapeared. reapear (about 1 in 5 reboots), disapear after next reboot. have read several articles/posts reporting have yet find satisfactory answer has solved problem. have tried repairing permissions, didn't seem resolve problem. have tried re-enabling clock via settings, no luck. wifi , still seems work though, don't show on bar.

ideas on how solve problem?

 

does happen in another, temporarily created, user account?
, "latest version of leopard osx", mean 10.5.8 or 10.6.8?
