How to exit mac os x utilities mode?

my friend did stupid while wasn't there , somehow enetered mac os x utilities mode. can't use computer normal, choices have erase , reinstall, disk repair etc, , restart disk. when choose restart mac os x, brings me utilities! how can fix this?

hold down option during boot before apple icon appears. preferably right around time gray screen appears.
