External Drive

help! have external 1tb drive. click "get info" on drive , says 983gb of 1tb used. however, when click "get info" on 2 subfolders in drive, 1 says "600gb used" , other says "30 gb" used. other 370 gb? i've emptied trash , used disk utility write zeros on free space. restarted. ideas?

use omnidisksweeper, jdisk report or grandperspective see how space being used on drive. of these apps may show more detail others, try several.
