Aperture: saving photos as library or vault?

hello,

i’m switching form iphoto aperture , have question regarding best way archive old photos.

right now, have collected photos 1 huge aperture library. want extract older photos (let’s photos until end of 2006) archive them. way understand aperture, can’t create vault part of library, can (and did) create smaller library photos want archive.

archiving, should save library is, or create vault library (and keep vault) ? matter @ all?

i archive libraries. once library starts hitting 500gb or split it, year. i'll have:

main_library
main_2011
main_2010
main_2009

don't use vault functionality.
