Please help. I'm miserable.

hey guys, got iphone 3gs friend. said deactivated , plug in itunes, did. when plugged in, said enter password on phone. doesn't give me choice put password in, can emergency call. tried going recovery mode power/sleep button doesn't work. i've tried recboot, tinyumbrella, etc. there more ways fix or should give friend?

help.
