Replaced iPad 2 under warranty recently?

bought 2 little under year ago. mic doesn't work , it's having kernel panics. i'm going take apple store couple of hours away, has had experience getting replacement 2? mine 32gb / 3g version, technically has been discontinued. inventory in general in short supply in area , 4g ipad hasn't yet been released, don't know they'd swap mine out with.

 

they maintain warranty replacements models haven't sold in years.
