How does daisy-chaining of external drives work?

i have imac 1 fw800 port , 1 fw400 port.

have lacie rugged drive 1 fw800 port , 1 fw400 port. have connected imac's fw800 port.

now, want connect second external drive imac. i'm thinking buying wd passport studio 2 fw800 ports.

question is: there 2 choices can take in order connect drives imac:
  1. connect lacie imac's fw400 port , connect new wd imac's fw800 port.
  2. connect new wd imac's fw800 port, , daisy-chain lacie wd's remaining fw800 port.
my question is: option should choose? guess option 2 better, since both on fw800 bus. however, since there 2 drives on same bus, doesn't slow down entire bus?

option 2 work fine, have 3 hdds connected imac way, fw800 ports , fw800 speeds too.
