Second monitor connection woe

ok have mac mini 2011 base model lg screen attached via hdmi, , second screen want hook using mdp -> other connection. i've tried these combinations:
mdp->hdmi cable in 3 samsung tvs (syncmaster 2333hd , 2 others can't recall models of)

mdp->vga converter apple store in samsung syncmaster 2333hd , lg e2251 monitor

mdp->dvi converter apple store in same samsung , lg screens.

first cable did sign of second screen being detected, in display prefs show settings second screen i'd never picture. both converters i've never got hint of second screen being detected.

@ point i'm thinking there problem mac, i'm wondering if else has experience?

 

has ideas on this?
