FireWire 800/400 9 pin to 6 pin instead of FireWire 400 to 400?

hello! still trying figure out mac. need assistance. bought lacie external hard drive macbook since have model foam 2008 (the 1 removable battery). need space on macbook bad. 3 gb left on drive. since still newbe put off long because don't understand do.

guy @ best buy mac guy , said needed $30 firewire 800/400 9 pin 6 pin cable. when opened drive last night there 2 cables included 1 800 800 , 1 400 400. macbook has 400 slot.

need 800/400 9 pin 6 pin cable? increase speed on 400 400 cable included drive?

help. feel overwhelmed attempting myself.

 

no, 6-pin 6-pin cable suffice, don't need 9-pin 6-pin cable, not provide more speed, limited firewire 400 6-pin port.
