hello everyone!
seem have problem thought easy fix, seems have escalated more complex one. have imac (actually dad's) upgraded snow leopard lion. of course had 1 program wasn't compatible, asked me downgrade it. there no time machine (or other matter) backup of system.
thought, "this easy. make new partition, boot sl disc came computer, install on new partition, select option restore previous mac, , restore other partition."
can on (older) laptop no problem. however, imac won't startup snow leopard disc. hardware , disc fine. believe reason sl disc os x revision 3 (10.6.3) , think computer came 10.6.4. (he bought imac retail store , 10.6.4 had came out. think guy upgraded left 10.6.3 cd in there??)
so, (this part may seem silly) question is, there way of possibly upgrading usb version of boot disk? can copy disc usb drive , boot on laptop, there way of making installer 10.6.4 (or newer version) somehow?
if won't work well, there other way of getting sl on machine? have collective updates it, if can force install older version, can upgrade no problem. (maybe i've convinced dad keep backups now)
in advance everyone!
does mac notebook have firewire?
if so, use target disk mode , boot imac tdm , connect mac , backup relevant data hdd.
use mac os x 10.6 snow leopard dvd have , install 10.6 onto hdd of imac (after has been formatted*) , run updates , boot imac , see, if works, should work.
