hi all, first post on here , felt complelled share recent experience apple's customer service dept.
owner of late 2007/early 2008 15" mbp, around december 2010 pink line appeared on screen , 4 or weeks later had issues thing booting point 1 day wouldn't boot. @ time living in bali , home month hols. took local apple reseller , took 1 @ , gleam in eye told me kaput , fixing around £800, did best job sell me new one.....
so, off went bali 9 months leaving macbook here intention of selling on ebay.... thank god didn't!
upon return decided start looking @ cheap ways logic board replaced, possibly doing myself. options came in @ around £300-£400 , refurbed logic board not new one, 1 indian guy spoke @ applemacrepairs helpful , offered have picked courier next day, did diggin on internet , read bunch of bad reports them didn't bother. s trawling internet came across thread ( on here actually!) linked page on apples website outlining nvidia issue , resulting class action. arranged call apple , promptly rang @ arranged time, guy on other end of phone extremely helpful , described scenario had led demise of prize possession , readying myself "tete tete" unwilling tech support guy, amazingly aggreed me sayin sounded nvidia issue , go nearest apple store (southapton west quay) , run test on - hmmm result thought, , polite boot!
off go evening southampton apple store rammed, no appointment, no worries ask me wait few mins , call me bar, describe symptoms , guy behind counter says ok let's try test, plugs in portable hard drive , turns on computer, "this should startup , give me validation code if it's chipset" says, starts, no chime, nothing breathing white light....hmmm think - ain't looking good. guy says "bear me need take out back" nervous 10 mins passes , returns, "it's board says, cant sure if it's nvidia chipset.........however seeing pay not have decided change logic biar free..... kissed him.
left there @ 7:30pm , rang me @ 12 next day ready collection " working?" asked - taken aback voice says "err yeah, perfectly?"
pick home , boot - amazing, macbook lives, blue line still on screen (only 1 pixel wide not noticeable) , there couple of keys not working, pain in but no biggie.
yesterday had go southampton thought i'd drop in , have word, first guy said there no applecare on it £90 keyboard change reccomended making appointment come see staff member, did. next guy looked @ , said when did have work done, 2 weeks ago, , line there before told him was, took out again see if reseat cable no joy, came , said "seeing did repair replace keyboard , display , logic board again , printed out sheet had £690 on £0 pay.
astounded level of service have provided when in reality have told me sling hook on both occasions, of staff dealt nothing less professional , courteous , seemed keen rectify problem.
have number of laptops, ipads , iphones registered apple not sure if see longtime customer or wether not bothered spending bit of cash have $94 billion in cash in bank, either way pleased least , alone has affirmed never consider going anywhere other apple in future.
sorry long post having read other accounts not work if didn't chime wanted post experience show down guy @ genius bar - apple aren't paying nvidia argue point, iwas ready in both cases (telephone , in store) argue side never needed , have been disappointed if hadn't done work truth told.
