what is the best external hard disk format to be used for both MAC and Window

hello people,

have external hard disk , it's giving me trouble. takes long time mount on mac , other times refuses open on windows partition on imac. hard disk works totally fine hp laptop. i'm guessing problem imac how.

anyway, i'm wondering is, best file format format external hard disk to, able perform fast , steady in both mac , windows on boot camp?. fat32, or ntfs, or what?.
