iPhone mail app stuck in gmail, can't access main screen

hello all. came here problem driving me crazy , finding nothing via google searches. in advance help.

problem can't access main screen of mail app. have gmail account , work account both set in mail app stuck in gmail. nothing bring me main screen can choose/add/delete accounts , set preferences. gmail inbox can hit "mailboxes" button @ top of screen, brings me list of various gmail mailboxes (inbox, drafts, sent, etc.). it. far can out. tried hitting "all mail" button, brings me gmail inbox. there no way me set prefs, check work mail, or add/delete accounts via menus have access to. odd. insights?

that's because mail preferences aren't in there, under phone settings, open them , go mail, contacts, calendars.
