Specing up iMac a good idea?

hi guys,
i'm new here, i've been reader last 3/4 months. i'm waiting on 2012 imac release, complete re-design, or minor evolution.

wouldn't use design, or gaming. i'd use watching mkv movies, downloading files, internet browsing, , being smug. oh office, word , excel.

firstly and importantly, when buy first imac, idea spec max? (apart ram, crucial). i'm contemplating specing keep pretty 4 years, no less, no more, , want useful towards end of life me.

secondly, , i'm getting quite near end now. feb, march, april??..... may???? :/ when ivy released, mean apple dispatch same day?

last of all, worth in 4 years time. (presuming not damaged in way)

well, didn't expect write much. if took time read this, , please if can give advice, greatful.

firstly, want "spec" up? ssd? processor? you'll using doesn't sound need crazy amount of power. i'd think i5 ok, that's me. if have money go i7.

secondly, released when it's released. won't same day ivy released, try month after or so.

thirdly, in 4 years it'll worth half third of got for. i'm typing post on 4 year old imac , i'd imagine $800 (got $1600 new).

if you're doing light stuff on machine i'd aim @ middle-high end. no reason max out, don't pinch pennies on lowest model. approach take towards getting sort of expensive electronics (tv, computer, camera, etc.) because i'll use out of want , won't go overkill on wallet @ time of purchase.
