Fresh install of 10.7, then TC restore from 10.4?

my buddies' mom has macbook 10.4 , has jacked hdd bad. i' going put fresh drive in , wondering if fresh lion install , restore personal files , settings 10.4 backups she's has on time capsule.

time have ever done tc restore before when full replacement , not system files. doable?
