i'm thinking of purchasing old imac g3. plan on getting 1 os 9 , upgrading os x 10.0 (better known cheetah), , perhaps 10.1. however, of imacs reasonable prices have 64mb memory, , hear need 128mb memory 10.0. true, or 64mb memory enough?
it painfully slow if did work @ all. don't recall if installer disc checks ram. you'd page filing constantly. wouldn't version of os x less 192mb ram using basic old software.
way 10.0 inefficient, slow , limited version of os x. 10.1 more streamlined, faster , efficient. 10.2 faster on same computer 10.1 or 10.0. there little software made 10.0 compatible. of older programs require mac os 9, 10.1 or 10.2. 10.0 more second public beta , largely ignored software publishers. wasn't until 10.3 apple started adding lot more bloat became quite noticeable 10.4 , beyond.
looked , shocked many people want outrageous prices imacs , many have little ram. i'd think collectors have stockpiles of old memory sitting about. mine has 512mb of free. stuff picked friends , family tossing old computers or leftover parts long dead computers of mine. i'd scrounge useful parts.
there seem few reasonable deals on ebay 256mb ram or greater though.
