i'm trying select carrier (at&t or verizon) go sporadic international travel.
travel third-world countries including asia , south america, isn't often. maybe 2 weeks @ time 4 times year. during these trips wifi can unreliable in populated area, i'm looking alternative. since cellular usage won't needed in us, international plan primary concern.
strong preference have pay service during overseas trips. in other words, keep no data plan @ until trip comes along buy coverage duration of trip (month @ time?).
at&t seems have reasonable approach can start domestic plan, add month of international data @ time. verizon isn't quite clear on site how works, seem offer both pay per use , monthly plans. verizon obliges have domestic plan.
have experience type of arrangement? starting domestic service short period add-on international data plan sounds hassle, if carrier makes easy think okay. i'm not sure how practical start/stop coverage several times year.
also, these overseas plans ghastly expensive on per mb rate. $30 per month 50mb? that's insane. there better way this, buying sim in country?
insight welcome. thanks.
if you're visiting country gsm standard, simplest solution buy local prepaid microsim or standard sim (which can cut down). local sim can used either at&t or verizon models.
