Early 2008 Won't Start

when try start, chime, gray/blue tapestry screen apple, wheel spins 30 secs, stops.
bought install discs. tried boot off install dvd pressing "c". gray/blue screen, turns green. error message tell me reboot. when reboot, same message.
do next?
