Displaying Mac mail in gMail

for on 2 years until late november, had gmail set fetch mac mail automatically , label in gmail accordingly.

noticed hand't received .mac mail in gmail few days and, when going gmail settings, saw hadn't fetched mac mail 8 days.

when tried delete account , re-add it, message notifying me 'there problem connecting mail.mac.com' ....

i'm thinking, reading of stuff i've found when googling answer problems can add pop accounts gmail .mac imap (whatever means) .... how come worked ages stopped?

forwarding mac mail format of messages changes , '>' @ start of every line.

i'm tad frustrated @ backwards move - can shed light?
