MacBook 2007 not really doing anything.

hi!

hoping 1 of clever people me out little problem!

sister's mac book stopped working year ago. she's since bought new one. i've turned on, comes on : can safely it's not battery problem. first of all, stays 20 minutes or on start page (the gray one, apple logo , little wheel), amazed see desktop picture appeared, nothing else : no finder, no dock, nothing!

it's been on 2 hours now, , still nothing has happened!

can me?

have tried of these steps?

mac doesn't boot

resolve startup issues , perform disk maintenance disk utility , fsck
