Fixed Length String??

i having trouble working out how create fixed length string.

have need create nsstring has maximum number of characters of 12.

if assign sting has 6 characters balance of need 6 blank spaces example.

@ possible or trimmed.

perhaps thing backwards. if started 12 space nsstring , replaced portion of possibly less 12 space string.
