Charging iPhone while iMac in sleep mode?

hey guys got iphone 4s , i'm wondering.. if plug iphone in imac (mid 2011) when it's in sleep mode still charge it?

i've heard people may drain battery, , not charge it, when plug in, has little bolt shows it's charging, , when it's full charge if play games iphone battery stays @ 100%. when iphone plugged in when put mac in sleep mode.. when plug iphone in , imac in sleep mode, imac wakes up?

i remember reading mid 2007 , newer imacs can charge usb device when sleeping.
