unchecking "restore windows" does not work

i've read bajillion posts on forum , others lion opening apps @ same state last closed in. have had "restore windows" option unchecked since 10 min after installing lion seems have no effect!

example- opened text editor make notes , last batch of notes made still in there though explicitly did not save notes individual file. expect, , want, application allow unsaved changes vanish ether. text editor, nor other app i've checked, has options seem related , have yet find solution after hours of googling.

abhor 'feature' of lion , want disabled, eliminated, , stomped out extreme prejudice forever. know of other options other telling me uncheck checkbox i've had unchecked ages?
