Is 2 x graphics perf enough with 4 x pixels?

[apologies if posted, search found nothing]

based on apple's relative comparisons nvidia's tegra 3, new ipad has twice graphics performance of ipad2. but, of course, has 4 times number of pixels!

people's thoughts on whether doubling performance sufficient maintain overall graphics performance?! (as can tell i'm not graphics or benchmark expert ...)

wirelessly posted (mozilla/5.0 (iphone; cpu iphone os 5_0_1 mac os x) applewebkit/534.46 (khtml, gecko) version/5.1 mobile/9a405 safari/7534.48.3)

i'm not expert either, i'd guess there isn't 1:1 correlation between pixels , level of performance required.
