Hi all, Mac novice completely stuck!

hi all,

have problem macbook running 10.5.8. partitioned via boot camp run windows well.

short while ago windows partition died (windows refused work!) killed off boot camp , started on reinstall windows (xp). install got stuck, go through normal process of formatting , copying files when went restart (where windows install should move off dos screen , on windows setup interface) started on again.

gave in end removing , trying repartition , install xp. (bootcamp seems have slowed down well, not sure if linked).

have 3 further problems (only 1 partition @ mo).

first , annoying computer won't sleep. if shut lid pulsing light @ front going (slower used to) evey time fades apple light on lid flickers. if try , put in sleep using apple menu light on front fades , when gets off point screen comes on , wakes again!

have searched solutions problems. far i've.....

1. checked updates
2. shut down , restart
3. turn off bluetooth
4. turn off auto admin turn on function
5. done smc reset
6. done pram reset
7. started in safe mode - problems persist.
8. repaired permissions

second issue if close lid send sleep while itunes open not not sleep when open lid again itunes has message stating not complete store request?!?!?!?

other niggle if try , use shift key , letter won't type , have use other shift key work! (and swaps between shift keys!!!)

these bits may unrelated old copy of xp going wrong, not being able install xp again , mac not sleeping in mac os, itunes playing , keyboard problem seem have reared ugly heads @ same time based on chance there linked though better post info possible.

or pointers appreciated.

many in advance

dave

hmm, i'd try pram/nvram reset 1 more time. had lion install blow on me, turns out bad install image/startup stuck in nvram , not rid of it, not using disk utility. reset nvram, tried lion install, worked flawlessly.

yes realize on different partition. maybe can remove windows install files using disk utility, format partition fat32 or ntfs, , try rerun windows install. brings question: did first format bootcamp partition fat32 or ntfs before running windows install? may source of issues. note if did fat32, have partition size limitation, whereas ntfs doesn't have limitation. source of problems. go ntfs.

if me, know i'd backup data, wipe drive, , go fresh lion install. if fixed osx-related issues, you've solved 50% of issues right there. process of elimination.

i'd go fresh partition , try bootcamp again. , time, when go windows xp install, format partition first, no matter what.

on sd drives, don't repartitions after failed install, , go fresh format.
