ok, i've been googling , searching various mac forums few days intermittently now, can't find close enough case matches mine here go:
mid-2009 mbp, in last week, has stopped responding power button while computer powered on. if try shut down or restart via
menu, nothing happens.
nothing suspicious showing on activity monitor under processes , no applications opening.
changing things in system preferences pane, haven't clue have possibly altered cause this.
ways can shut down right doing force shut down holding power key down (so i'm guessing switch isn't broken) or opening terminal , entering: sudo shutdown -h now.
it's worth noting i've run mackeeper, onyx, repaired disk/permissions via recoveryhd, , did clean install of os within last month.
thank you. can see forum helpful , appreciate help!
perhaps if posted screen shots of activity monitor after you've closed apps.
so take mean can't shut down clicking > shut down.
i don't recommend using mackeeper @ all, , highly recommend uninstall it. don't need "cleaner" or "maintenance" apps keep mac running well, , of these apps can more harm good. remove files/folders or unused languages or architectures, nothing more free drive space, risk of deleting important in process.
these apps not make mac run faster or more efficiently, since having stuff stored on drive not impact performance, unless you're running out of drive space. of these apps delete caches, can hurt performance, rather it, since more system resources used , performance suffers while each cache being rebuilt.
many of these tasks should done selectively troubleshoot specific problems, not en masse routine maintenance.
mac os x job of taking care of itself, without need 3rd party software. among other things, has own maintenance scripts run silently in background on daily, weekly , monthly basis, without user intervention.
