How To Work Time Machine ???

hi

i'm needing data in mac 5.1 os x leopard 10.5 not sure how operate time machine? confirms need add time capsule etc.

apart external hd how else can data in mac? possible create 2nd partition?

sorry new os x.

need external hdd, formatted , enable tm use external hdd.

or can use carboncopycloner or superduper make 1:1 copy of internal hdd external hdd, backing partition defeats purpose.
