i have been given firewire lacie hd gift. has 1tb.
i'm @ loss though best way use it. yes.. time machine.. else?
maybe daft question having capacity sitting there unused seems wrong somehow.
apart time machine there else in best interests put on hd.. me , running again if worst happen , hd inside mac die horribly.
have created partition 40% time machine , 60% 'free'
mac mini 2011.
i create bootable copy of internal hdd via carboncopycloner, keep running if internal hdd fails.
instance, have mbp ssd , hdd, ssd gets cloned partition on hdd on daily basis.
imac has ssd , ssd gets backed external fw800 hdd on daily basis too, if 1 ssd fails, can still boot backup , use imac or/and mbp.
