Applecare + 3 years

hi all. purchased new mbp 17" in b&h today. bought applecare + 3 years because on sale ( 50%) , costed 122 usd.
question : when need activate it? mean, if bought laptop , applecare today ( 04/01/12) can activate applecare 1 day before mbp 1 year warranty expires?

i doesn't matter when activate long before first year up. applecare additional 2 years plus 1 year warranty included purchase (for total of 3 years).

if activate now, phone support ends after 90 days might incentive activate prior the year being up.
