Quieting the startup chime on 4th generation MacBook

anyone have luck finding way quiet start chime on 4th generation white macbook os x 10.7.2? (macbook 4,1)

startupsound.prefpane doesn't work, , psst works if remember run before shutting down.

know start chimes used show computer has passed diagnostic tests @ start up, asking quiet volume, not mute it.

not @ predicting future not going remember turn down volume last time shut down before taking computer library or classroom, don't want announce whole library or class have mac when turn on.

suggestions?
