Mac Mail Not Loading Email

i away weekend laptop without internet connection. mac mail won't load 3 days worth of emails. can receive mail today , yesterday. using pop account , gmail. gmail loads them fine.

 

did check e-mail on phone? pop e-mail account won't hold messages on server after they're downloaded device. or maybe didn't e-mails on weekend.
