i got first mac (white macbook) year , half ago. never touched mac before that, wanted video editing. i've enjoyed imovie '11, it's time storage solution. i've tried finding tutoring no avail yet. think want external 2tb, , leave internal is. i'm open advice or online tutorials may know of. i've never used external drives machine... not savvy guy.
need know:
-best plug , play, simple external drive (no software great). 2tb around $100 if possible.
-how maximize efficiency imovie external drive, i.e. easiest have secondary operating system on external drive?
thanks!
the 2tb drives you'll find around $100 pretty poorly designed or slow. if speed isn't main concern (although should video editing) check out of these. aren't designed plug , play mac formatting drive dead simple. if want that's plug in , go better off buy "mac" hard drive cost more come firewire (faster interface). model macbook have? have effect on if can firewire 400 or 800. though, on budget , working in imovie, i'd usb ones should do.
far second question, you're over-thinking it. drop files in folder on external , make sure it's plugged in when go edit. work fine. imovie isn't complex there's not can do. don't go through hassle of installing os onto external, makes things more complicated , slow things down. when program trying read , write off same drive (like while rendering) slow. that's why having external (even usb, although firewire better) suggested video editing.
hope helps.
