External USB Superdrive not working in Windows 7 Bootcamp

i've fitted crucial m4 ssd 17" 2009 mbp , works under lion. can't see superdrive in windows 7 (bootcamp).

high level summary of process followed (clean install of lion , win7 bootcamp):

1. fitted ssd hdd bay
2. installed lion , windows 7 via usual bootcamp process
3. removed internal superdrive, fitted old hdd in optibay clone.
4. fitted superdrive external usb enclosure.

works in os x lion. in windows 7, superdrive isn't working properly.

basically, in devices, there showing 'usb serial ata bridge' appears when plug in usb superdrive. must windows 7 recognising tiny pcb inside superdrive enclosure - far. identifies optical drive, , when right click on icon, in hardware tab shows drive model, matshita uj-868.

however, when insert dvd, or kind of disc, e.g. windows software etc, spins up, slows down, , shuts down again. above device remains present throughout in devices.

downloaded latest apple support software win7 part of bootcamp process, , have downloaded latest apple software windows 7 using updater in windows.

driver issue? in devices, under hardware, seems using generic windows driver (c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys).

help! driving me mad. there must loads of people have done same thing me (i.e. converted internal superdrive usb one) - surely simple?

, advice appreciated !

if memory serves me, known problem , don't think there work around - short of adding optical drive in
