a couple of weeks ago, had seen ad 15 inch macbook pro in "toronto blackmarket" facebook group. in listing, seller specified 2009 model , in mint condition. wanted "600 - 700", said go lower. offered 500, said okay. bit.
schedule meetup @ yonge-bloor station 4:00pm. informs me through e-mail doesn't have phone, , suggests communicate through facebook. conclude lying not having phone, maybe because laptop has flaws discover use after purchase. decide meet anyways. thoughts: if macbook pro have flaws, notice them while inspecting it, , can refuse purchase it.
4:00pm comes, , i'm @ yonge-bloor. no sign of him. wait half hour. nothing. around 4:30pm, calls me through private number. right, has phone. says forgot laptop @ home, , tells me meet him @ eglinton station. okay. it's 5:00, , i'm @ eglinton. calls me again , tells me half hour. @ point i'm frustrated, decide wait out 1 last time.
it's 5:30, facebook messages me he's here. agree on meeting in restaurant near td bank. see him, greet each other, see brought friend. sit down in restaurant. after small talk, find out both play on highschool football team. i'm impressed, university-student-like builds. asks me if have $500 on me, tell him yes.
i'm excited see laptop. pulls out of bag, upside down. right off bat notice it's 2008 model. i'm extremely disappointed, don't anything. points out lost charger, become extremely suspicious laptop stolen and, in mind, decide not interested, stay silent. observe; laptop has scratches , dents on top , keyboard, , not power on. says battery must dead.
fortunately (or unfortunately, find out), have macbook charger in backpack. surprisingly, he's okay me charging it. powers on after 5 awkward minutes of charging. scared tell him don't want it, seems set on selling today. muster courage , tell him inevitable; don't want it, it's not 2009 model, , it's not mint.
he's furious. "it's not fault. manual said 2009, it's fault, should have asked me specific details!". friend remains quiet. explain seller falsely advertised it. continues fallaciously , ignorantly justify himself. become anxious, eyes red, gestures aggressive, voice loud, may violent. "just take 500, you're lucky i'm not robbing you!" think "what have gotten myself into."
continue tell him don't want it, , continues argue. ten minutes, , he's had enough. slams laptop. pulls charger out of wall, "i'm taking this". him , friend , hurry out door. sit there shocked. don't follow him, i'm thankful didn't go $500 , i'm in 1 piece. wait 5 minutes, peering out window every ten seconds, making sure not outside. leave eventually.
sit here now, on basement computer, looking costs of magsafe chargers. have class tomorrow, , need 13" mbp charged. don't know whether glad i'm safe, or upset no longer have charger. in all, know i've learned valuable lessons. time move on. $90 @ apple store? eh. looks selling brand new 85w 1 on craigslist 65. i'll bite.
sounds revolving door kind of situation
