i have been trying set basic raid mirroring system. on past 6 months ripped dvd's in order play on appletv. have 2.5 tb of data, stored on 1 hd. purchased second 3 tb hd in order first external. when attempting set raid disk utility states data on both drives deleted. not work. there way around this? suggestions? don't want have purchase 3 tb drive in order put data on while set raid. there must alternative. first time setting raid system , quite frankly until when lost bunch of important data had not backed files @ all.
when create raid set diskutility, have erase disks.
better alternative raid might manually backing second disk. using ccc (carboncopycloner).
biggest cause of data loss human error. i.e. accidently deleting file. raid not protect against this. raid provides redundancy prevent downtime - should not considered backup.
