hey all
have imac in basement office , macbookpro in living room. have sims 3 installed on both of them, , want find synch files between two. there 1 particular game have been playing while on imac, , while know can copy , paste saved games over, hoping way automatically sync them.
game files need kept in own folder, think copying whole folder on work, interested in syncing single files within folder too.
have see lot of people suggest rsync backing files external hard drive, , wondering if way synch game file. , still synch if machine playing on in sleep mode? or both have awake when synch takes place?
if rsync isn't solution, have remember when take game disc out, have move game file over. not huge deal, nice have done automatically me.
rsync should need, , think work best "folder action." if don't know folder action runs everytime contents of specific folder changed. if put rsync in one, everytime contents of folder change (aka saved something) run rsync automatically. if go route, make sure set go both directions, if @ tutorial, script copies 1 way first, , other. makes easier can use same script both folders......... main problem rsync of course getting automatically go between 2 different computers... d you'd have enable "file sharing" or "remote login" here few outlines, if have questions please ask
-----------needs file sharing enabled------
..... wrong, don't have computer check @ time, if connect mac (like through home network) believe mounted @ /volumes/computer_name. may able make rsync go across home network... wrong.
similar option rsync sims3 files public folder, , vice versa. again require connect other mac (through finder) , drag stuff out of folder
-----------needs remote login-------------
set ssh on both macs, can write folder action script ssh 1 mac other, , rsync heres like:
$ rsync -avz -e ssh remoteuser@remotehost:/remote/dir /this/dir/
, got this website, gose more indepth, @ minimum after setting ssh command need
---------------needs neither remote login nor file sharing---------
easier option, dropbox (you can sign right here ) , automatically syncs files. set account (for free, 2gb) , install on both computers, , select "sims3 folder" 1 sync. , automatically take care of rest. , plus if @ friends or something, go online dropbox, , download files , play game on comp. use db sync files between mac , windows side, great. main advantage f automatically sync whenever computers on network (with or without internet...if theres no internet comps must on same network though) , don't have anything
if need rsync, wrote little "tutorial" someone, while ago, let me find it... here is
