Connecting old speakers with a 3.5 mm male connnector to Apple TV

i looking purchase apple tv, first wanted see if use pretty decent set of old speakers have 3.5 mm male male output cable. currently, can plug directly ipod. stream music macbook air these speakers via apple tv.

apple tv has no 3.5 mm female input jack, optical. not @ familiar optical audio cables, there adapter can use setup work?
