Apple Retains Majority of Tablet Shipments in 4Q11 as Kindle Fire Drives Android Momentum

research firm idc today released data on tablet shipments fourth quarter of 2011, pegging apple @ 54.7% of market. apple's share down 61.5% in previous quarter, decline due in large part relatively strong debut amazon's $199 kindle fire tablet, garnered 16.8% of market.
on strength of kindle fire, android has seen share of tablet market rise 32.3% 44.6%, giving ios , android 99.3% of market. research in motion's blackberry operating system holds remaining 0.7% of market, while hp's webos has disappeared market following company's discontinuation of touchpad.

idc predicts android whole overtake ios in market share 2015, apple's single-vendor strategy see company maintain dominance in revenue through end of 2016 forecast period , beyond.

idc's data measures shipments sales channel , not sales end users, meaning data includes units sitting on store shelves not being purchased customers. given apple has repeatedly noted selling every ipad can make , other vendors have had difficulty moving products off of store shelves, apple has been regarded having higher end-user market share suggested idc's numbers. apparent success of kindle fire, disparity in shipments versus sales may shrinking somewhat.

i think market flooded cheap android tablets, apple may losing 50%+ share (not shipments real sells). high-end tablets, no 1 comes close apple :apple:
