2008 MBP Dead - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M Issue?

hi folks, girlfiend has 15" mid-2008 mbp:

opened morning , there nothing on display, though front case light one. tired restarting several times, resetting pram , smc (though difficult no display indication or start sound). i'm pretty sure it's fried, , wondering if related nvidia geforce 8600m issues in 2008 mbp line. if so, still possible fixed under recall(?) http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377; think read somewhere valid 3 years can't remember where. anyway, wanted see if community had tips, we're taking store afternoon see what's going on. thanks!

 

the warranty 4 years date of purchase.
