i have music on user account on macbook. wife has account on macbook small amount of music. want share itunes library , add smaller music collection it. figured easiest way pool our music still have separate account emails, calendars , contacts can sync our iphones.
moved itunes media folder /users/shared directory , pointed itunes it; no problem there. logged wife's account, renamed itunes music folder (so can copy mp3s, aacs, etc on shared library later) , opened itunes. tried point itunes shared itunes media folder nothing happened; no prompt copy files, no adding of existing files. opened itunes while holding alt , tried choose shared itunes media folder tells me cannot find itunes library.
there apple support document gives instructions on how share itunes libraries don't idea of having go file > add library every time either of makes change 'shared' library.
there way both have (asynchronous) access shared itunes library without having manually scan updates? or, there lion/ios5 feature i've missed or misunderstood can simplify us?
i suggest taking music, app, movie files, etc. , starting new library in shared location on macbook. long both accounts authorized both should have permissions play them all.
if want keep music/movies separate when sync you'll have manually manage or create playlist , sync them. don't know keeping apps separate though. don't sync apps computer anymore, keep on phone. icloud back-ups don't need anymore.
far calendars, notes, emails, etc. i'd use icloud syncing/back-ups.
can't see why have keep "adding library" update though. long both accounts have correct permissions set shared location, can imagine automatically updating other location library. i'd check folder permissions on that.
also, might have better luck in different forum. iphone section.
