iPhone names artists differently than itunes

when iphone connected itunes , click on music under iphone in side menu; of artists named correctly. but, when artists on actual iphone, artists names have been changed. example, trying put band called "the clash" on iphone. seems sync fine when drag songs over. on iphone , songs listed under "the clash" , others under "clash".
iphone set manually manage music. i've tried renaming of music artist under name "clash", doesn't work either. still stay separated "clash" , "the clash". going on?
