VHS to digital best way ?

hey people

got vhs tapes covert digital. want highest quality.

number 1 way
have dvd record. plug in vhs player , press record . convert dvd digital file. alot of work , think not best quality because burn dvd.

number 2 way
have pvr can record on hard drive way

number 3 way
converter eg video out cables usb or firewire .

best way top quality?
got both macs , widows loin , window 7.

 

3 best way, might not able read file way 2.
