Patition Failed: Input/output error

that's got when tried partition new wd macbook hd.

installed drive, started osx install disc, , opened disk utility, selected partition, 1 partition, , mac os extended, clicked "partition," no dice.

mean there's wrong new drive?

installing drive because computer fell on floor, , old drive appeared dead. took genius bar, , booted using external.

thanks!

 

an i/o error indicates bad drive or failing controller/cable. should try returning drive replacement.
