title explains all. swapped out 32mb ram stick 2 512 sticks , swapped 20gb hard drive 120. when go turn on mac doesn't start "chime" i'm guessing has hard drive maybe needing formatting or of nature? do? black screen. maybe there's keyboard prompts or something?
***also, first maybe thought crt monitor went out being upside down week in pieces on kitchen table hooked , external monitor since in has monitor out connection , still nothing.

did install copy of os x on new 120 gb hard drive before swapped out original 20 gb one? i'm guessing did put bootable system on new hard drive prior installing imac. mac can't operate without bootable system installed on hard drive (unless booting cd, dvd, or other external drive).
have tried booting cd or dvd? didn't i'm assuming using tiger (os 10.4 or before), tiger last version of os x officially supports g3? tiger came dvd cd version of if specially ordered it. previous versions of os x came on cd.
if ram bad, mac beep 3 times , nothing or screen go gray (this indicates unseated ram or bad ram).
