Networking question

hi all,

quite new mac's in general, , wanting if possible. running latest osx on macbook air 13".

have ubuntu 11.10 server running xbmc frontend. shares folders network using samba. can access them fine via windows , on osx. have setup folder on server act time machine.

question have this:
on windows, have shortcut gets me straight server, explorer opens showing available folders shared (document, videos, music, etc).

on osx, seems must goto finder, connect server via ip rather server name , proceed mount specific folder only. have folders. bit of pain.

there way of having direct shortcut server on desktop (or in finder menu) can click it, auto login server , show me available folders me mount if required. use few of folders @ same time server acts torrent downloader.

hope have explained question ok.

thank you,

on windows, made shortcut, right? same thing on mac os x.

1. connect server.
2. select desktop icon in finder.
3. make alias (file menu).
4. eject server volume (i.e. disconnect).
5. double-click alias.
6. reconnect server or not?

have several server , file-sharing aliases , work fine.
