iPhone 4 3G data usage

hi all,

i'm new smartphone world...please gentle!

have 1gb data usage. understand when connected wifi data used doesn't count towards 1g on phone plan iphone 4.

can explain me - in 3g (if away wifi connection) how know if phone using data? '3g' symbol on, indicate data being downloaded? i've noticed times when 3g turns blue or loading symbol shows next it, indication of data usage?

have set of apps, mail, etc update manually etc need know not downloading data needlessly.


appreciated.

 

to know whats data usage go settings/general/usage , check or reset data usage , check tomorrow or in few hours.
