i have 4 internal hard drives inside mac pro. 3 of them 2tb hitachi drives , other internal drive came machine. 1 of drives not unmount - says might in use application. have tried disk utility , drive genius no luck. being backed super duper know have copy. there approximately 1.1 tbs of data or 56% full. not copying files in or out easily. dragged on 4 audio files of maybe 80 mbs in size , not copy them folder. when dragged them icon, copied in under second. must tell spotlight endlessly indexing , cannot turn off. have dropped privacy, have used spotless turn off , used sudo mdutil on/off in terminal try stop indexing - no luck. cloned external 2 tb firewire drive , drive genius can unmount , rebuild without hitch. can copy there wrong here.
update: i've started off of system drive , used both drive geius , tech tool 5 rebuild , clean internal system drive - no change. tried re-format offending drive , not able - got error code of -1407. approached differently. own newertech voyagerq can put bare drives in. removed drive mac pro , inserted newertech bay , appeared firewire drive. ran disk utility , able repair it. tried run disk utility again , wouldn't unmount. seemed okay moment failed again. tried same thing drive genius , not unmount - strange. so, cannot re-initialize drive ... , yet works (sort of) not enough trust it. way, it's 2 months old.
i'm @ wits end - got nothing else try - ideas?
those classic signs on drive failure. (read/write issues, slow performance, having troubles unmounting, unable repair...)
thinking putting in voyager q drive dock, if having same troubles there gotta bad drive.
might try using usb instead of firewire voyager q... whatever reason i've had better luck owc's sleds usb when drive having troubles.
news drive 2 months old, going under warranty hitachi.
